If you don’t know Terry de Gunzburg by name, you might know her by reputation as the mastermind behind Yves Saint Laurent’s VERY popular Touche Eclat highlight pen. By Terry actually has a version of Touche Eclat that I plan on reviewing later but for now… Let’s talk about Éclat de Teint.
So what is it?
By Terry says that it’s a “radiance revealer;” it “diminishes shadows, smoothes out fine lines, reduces imperfections and revives the freshness of tired skin.” It’s bursting with soy protein and Vitamin E and its tagline claim is that it is “Hours of Sleep in a jar.”
So what is it?
It’s basically just a luxury luminizing cream that can be used anywhere you want a bit of shimmer. It comes in multiple shades but each one doesn’t carry a ton of color. They are mostly just hints of color with small amounts of MICRO-FINE shimming glitter. Don’t confuse this with a skin lighter, this isn’t a lighting cream that will fix dark spots. This is a cream designed to chase away shadows and reflect light by creating a glowing effect – While you have it on.
It comes in two containers, one is the 1oz/30ml jar for $99.00, and the other is in a more travel friendly pen that contains 3.2ml for $49.50. When the jar is twice the price for nearly 10 times the product, it’s not too hard to figure out which one is the better deal.
This IS one of the more beautiful luminizing products that I have used – but don’t think it’s really anything other than what it is. There are no wondrous, skin-loving ingredients in this and if you are sensitive to scented products then BE WARNED! The fragrance is STRONG! All of the By Terry products I have used are heavily rose scented. And I mean HEAVILY! So heavily in fact that I can’t use it on myself (and wouldn’t even TRY on a client); it burns my eyes when I have it even close to my face and actually causes my skin to heat up because it’s so perfumed!
I have the same reaction to many products by Guerlain though; I would say if you can take those without problem, you’ll be fine with this. Still, it’s unfortunate that the fragrance is so potent because it’s very pretty and it works nicely on its own, under foundation, over foundation or blended with your favorite foundation – for me, it’s just not worth the tears AND it greatly effects my personal PEEP rating.

Argh! Personally if I couldn’t use the product at all because it smelled so strongly I wouldn’t give it any stars :P
I’ve never heard of Terry before – such are the benefits of living in Australia :[
Love your blog ^_^
she isn’t really WELL known over here in the states either – most department stores don’t carry her line. and yea, you’re right on the rating thing! i had a REALLY hard time rating this one! it was kind of like rating skincare (which i don’t do, cause we’re all different, instead i just report my own findings). i can’t really use this product but it’s mostly because of my sensitivity to fragrance. someone else who didn’t mind the smell would be fine. it’s a lovely product – but i do wish with things like this companies would ease up on the perfume to make their products more accessible.
btw thanks for catching that :) fixed it!
