Personally speaking, I love a good theme and the new GO Palettes from Coastal Scents don’t disappoint in the “Well that’s clever!” department. There are seven, 12-color, eyeshadow palettes available; each palette inspired by one of seven different cities from around the world: Beijing, Cairo, London, Moscow, Nuuk, Paris and Sydney (my top picks are London, Moscow and Sydney).

Those who are familiar with the 88 pan palettes should expect more of the same from these in terms of performance. The majority of the shadows have outstanding color payoff with soft, bendable textures. Typically the metallic and frost shadows are the best in these palettes; the GO palettes surprised me though, offering a range of smooth, pigmented mattes! Each palette features a nicely sized 2.75in/7cm glass mirror on the inside as well (points for practicality).

Beijing - is a very warm-toned palette comprised of mostly pink and plum tones with a couple more “neutral” shades and one very pretty shimmering charcoal black. All of the shadows in this palette are either frosty or metallic and all of them offer excellent color payoff with very soft textures (my notes actually say “softsoftsoft“).

Cairo - is a mostly neutral palette with a fair amount of matte shadows in it. These shadows are more firm than the ones in the Beijing palettes but they still feel like they should cost much more than they do. This palette also offers a matte white, matte black and one REALLY cool, crazy-pigmented metallic silver!

London - looks like two palettes split down the center; one one side you’ve got six shimmering blue, teal and purple shades while on the other six warm-toned neutrals. The neutrals are almost all matte and include one black that’s much darker than the black in the Cairo palette. There is one dud in this bunch: The glittery grey in the middle row, right side has poor pigmentation and too much chunky glitter. The outstanding purples and aqua-teal colors more than make up for that mishap though! They are beautiful and make this palette one of my top three from this collection.

Moscow - is one of my other favorites from the GO Palettes. Full of rich, metallic jewel tones (including a vibrant burgundy red), the Moscow palette does still have one miss in the middle row, second shadow from the left (it’s has the same issues as the dud in the London palette). Also similar to the London palette though, this makes up for it’s mistake by including a richly pigmented, amazingly creamy, deep rose-copper shade in the lower right corner! SO pretty!

Nuuk - is the worst of the bunch for me. The only good shades were the middle two in the top row (frosted neutrals) and the icey white in the lower right corner. The rest of the shadows were far too hard, offering little color payoff and a disappointing lack of diversity. The good news is that it’s the only one that I didn’t really like!

Paris - doesn’t have the diverse color-range found in London or Moscow but it does include one of the prettiest, nearly neon blue colors I’ve ever seen! Like Beijing, this palette offers all frost and metallic colors in what I’d call mostly “dark neutrals.” There is one miss in this palette: The dark blue in the bottom left corner is too hard with color you have to really have to build up if you want it to pop.

Sydney - is (and this shouldn’t surprise anyone) the last of my top three favorites from these GO Palettes! The green in the top row is the only tricky shade (you need to build it up). The rest are AH-MAZING (seriously, that’s all I wrote in my notes: “AH-MAZING!”). This is totally a palette for those who either LOVE color OR for those who don’t have much but are interested in playing around with some brights. There are yellows, golds, greens, blues and bright, hot pinks in this one. It’s very 80′s – it looks like a Debbie Gibson video!

I got the Cairo one since I was looking for a neutral palette for work. I do love the small handy size for my already makeup stuffed handbag!

Well, Nuuk is one boring ass city. So that’s an appropriate palette, I guess. On the other hand, it’s a fairly colourful city, though mostly in the way that most east-block cities are colourful these days. Which probably makes for nicer makeup colours than it does cityscapes, so a shame they didn’t take note and and use that instead of some odd idea that arctic cities aren’t just cities with greater amounts of sludge than some other cities.

Hi Dusty, These palettes look like a great bargain. I’m thinking they would make good stocking- stuffers. Do you have any other favorite Coastal Scents products? I want to take advantage of the $10 off special so any other recommendations are appreciated. Thanks, Amie

Amie – I buy all of my Shea Butter, Cocoa Butter, Coconut Oil, etc. from them. I like all those products. Their fragrance oils all smell really nice as well. For makeup, I LOVE their Eye Brighteners and some of their brushes are really nice (I’ve had good luck with almost everything except the duo fibers, which feel kind of plastic-y).
