Maybelline’s EyeStudio 24hr Color Tattoo Eyeshadows are a cream eyeshadow product with finishes that range from matte to high-sparkle metallic. They are very long-wearing and crease resistant with superb, easy-to-work-with textures and great color payoff… for the most part.

The good news: After testing these for several weeks I can honestly say that they are some of the best eyeshadow bases I’ve ever used (drug store or otherwise)! Absolutely worth a look and with so many different color options, you’re likely to find at least one that will appeal to you. My personal favorites were Fierce & Tangy, Tough as Taupe, Tenacious Teal and Bold Gold.

The bad news: There’s really not any. The only thing that kept these from a perfect (5 Blue Peeps) score was Painted Purple. I know you’ll be tempted when you look at it… just don’t.

Watch the video review:

05 Too Cool is a high-frost, semi-transparent white that’s mostly just a bunch of frost (not too much actual color).

10 Fierce & Tangy is a bright tangerine orange with a cream finish (flat color, no shimmer or frost).

15 Audacious Asphalt is a metallic gunmetal grey with flecks of silver glitter.

20 Painted Purple is a violet-leaning, metallic purple with sheer, uneven coverage. The worst performing of the bunch, this one slides around on the skin a lot.

25 Bad to the Bronze is a mid-tone, metallic golden bronze.

30 Pomegranate Punk is a mid-tone burgundy with silver glitter. This shade is very similar to MAC’s Artifact Paint Pot (except with glitter added).

35 Tough as Taupe is a deep clay-colored grey with a cream finish (flat color, no shimmer or frost).

40 Tenacious Teal is a bright ocean blue infused with silver glitter. Much more blue than green in this “teal” color.

45 Bold Gold is a warm and sunny, vivid metallic gold with gold glitter. This one works wonders as an eye shadow base for neutral as well as bright eye looks. I found it the most versatile of the bunch.

50 Edgy Emerald is a semi-opaque, metallic seafoam green. This has a texture similar to Painted Purple but with much better (though not perfect) color payoff.

Once I start seeing them in drug stores I think I may pick one or two up. I’m glad you did a review on them!

I love these! I have tough as taupe & bold gold. I wish there were a couple of skintone shades though too – I’d love to have an everyday shade to use as a base.

My Tough as Taupe must be defective. No one else had the problems I did with it disappearing. I put it on on clean dry lids and in 8 hours, it vanished….not faded, it literally disappeared entirely. It was also super hard to apply and blend. I may try Bad to the Bronze and give these a chance to redeem themselves. I think I am the only blogger in North America who hates these.

So strange. You aren’t the only person who I’ve heard that from though. These DO crease and fade on some people – I just have only heard of it happening in legends LOL :) We’re all different, there’s just never any way to tell how something will react until we try it out. I hope you find one that works (even if you don’t though, at least your eyebrows will look awesome ;) xoxoxo

These beauties have yet to reach Irish shores but I’ll definitely pick them up. Every one. (Except Painted Purple ;))

I love these! I have 5 of them and yes, I’ve been *so* tempted by that purple, but I’ve stopped myself. Thank goodness! I think I’ll need to pick up that gold one next. Still not sure about that orange one though. They really need to release more flat shades of these… the taupe / gray one is my favourite.

picked up fierce and tangy yesterday and just discovered that it’s a brilliant base for mac’s pink bronze pigment. this, with a shimmery taupe in the crease and a swipe of clinique black honey liner, is wowsers on blue eyes. who knew?
